Lynne Mallonee Schlimm and Anne Shields, two denizens of the Wednesday Studio, have teamed up to create a delightful children’s book, Beets, Baths and Ballet. Through 24 pages of twists and turns, an organic beet farm and day spa becomes a venue for a ballet about Noah’s Ark.
It’s a children’s book, yes, but honestly, over the past year all of us in the Wednesday Studio have chuckled and chortled and oohed and ahhed as we have seen Lynne paint illustrations like these:
The story and illustrations are by Lynne, and Anne wrote the text. Here are some sample pages from the published book:
Pigs in Girl Scout uniforms. A ballet instructor named Madame Fiona de Couchon. An organic beet farm with a sideline spa including mud bath, massage, and sauna.
Charming, darling, inspired, clever, droll–the book is, in a word, a blast.
Hot off the press, it is on display at the Wednesday Studio show now occurring at Iona Senior Services. To find out how to purchase your own copy, email wednesday.studio.artists@gmail.com..

Marian is absolutely right. The entire class has been laughing in delight as we have seen the text and watercolor illustrations develop. Many kudos to this inspired pair! I understand there is another story in the works. Cannot wait to see what they come up with.
