Three Wednesday Studio members juried into art league show

We’re very proud to report that Tara Hamilton, Carolyn Rondthaler, and Karen Van Allen were accepted into the current show, “Galaxy,” the 10th annual metro show sponsored by the Capitol Hill Art League.

This annual exhibit is open to all artists in Virginia, Maryland, and DC–not just members of the art league. The show received 200 submissions, but only 30 were selected by juror April M. Rimpo.

This is the link to see all 30 pieces in the show: Galaxy Exhibit.

In her remarks at the exhibit’s opening reception, Ms. Rimpo said that she looked for art with a “balanced design that demonstrates an interesting organization of space, color, line, value, or texture.” She noted that often a piece grabs her attention “when an artist tells a story in their art, expresses an emotion, or makes a statement about our times.”

Here are the three Wednesday Studio works in the “Galaxy” exhibit.

Tara Hamilton: Galaxy of Hope–2021. Watercolor. Tara’s piece won 3rd place in the show! Juror April M. Rimpo said that this piece earned the award because it speaks to the sense of hope many are experiencing this year with the availability of vaccines for COVID-19, and it successfully ties the painting to the theme of “galaxy.” She added, “The clever placement of the syringes made me feel like they are floating in space, and where the needles intersect, star shapes are formed.”
Carolyn Rondthaler: Tabletop Seen Through a Vase. Watercolor.
Karen Van Allen: In Space. Acrylic on canvas,

Marian Wiseman
