Watercolor and Pastel Artists at CHAW

Enjoy these birds for July 2021 Draw-a-Bird Day

Here are eight birds for your entertainment and delight.

Tara Hamilton: I Am Not a Chicken. Watercolor. [This is a sparrow Tara saw outside a coffee shop, but the sparrow looked like a chicken.]
Anne Shields: Male Lesser Prairie Chicken. Pastel. [This bird IS a chicken. He is doing his spring mating ritual of prancing and jumping and dancing at sunrise, while “booming,” which is calling out his distinctive mating sound. Click here for a video with sound.]
Carolyn Rondthaler: Red-Headed Woodpecker. Watercolor.
Karen Van Allen: Heron. Graphite, pastel, and charcoal on paper.
Nancy Arbuthnot: Phoebe among Purple Fringed Orchids along Park Central Road in Catoctin Mountain Park, Thurmont, Maryland. Watercolor. [Nancy was artist in residence in May at the Catoctin Forest Alliance Artist in Residence Program. This was part of her “Catoctin alphabet project”–she was up to the P’s.]
Tom Eichenberger: Bluejay. Acrylic.
Andrew Armstrong. Green Crane (from my imagination). Watercolor.
Marian Wiseman: Sandhill Crane (in the yard at Inverness, Florida). Colored pencil.
