THE WEDNESDAY STUDIO

Watercolor and Pastel Artists at CHAW

December 2021 DAB-Day brings year to an inspiring close with 12 birds (but no partridge in a pear tree)

Amazing fact: September 2016 was the first Draw-a-Bird day post in the Wednesday Studio blog, making this the 64th DAB-Day post. AND, we’re not sick of drawing birds—we love it!

I haven’t actually counted, but I think flamingos might possibly have the most entries in the DAB-Day files, though hummingbirds, owls, and herons have certainly carved out a place of honor in the list.

We also love seeing the variety of artists outside of the Wednesday Studio who contribute. DAB-Day is the only blog post in which art from non-Wednesday Studio members is published. If you would like to participate in Draw-a-Bird Day (any month), send a photo of your bird by email by the 8th of the month to wednesday.studio.artists@gmail.com.

Here are the wonderful birds that flew in for this last blog post of 2021.

Judith Davis: Cedar Waxwing. Watercolor.
Lynne Malonnee Schlimm: Great Horned Owl. Watercolor.
Tom Eichenberger. Yellow-Breasted Chat. Felt marker and colored pencil.
Pat Stocks: Blue Jay. Graphite.
Laura Wilcox: The Stork. Watercolor.
Carolyn G (age 5): Red Bird. Markers.
Jim Eichenberger: Robin. Graphite.
Tara Hamilton: Glorious Eagle. Watercolor.
Susan Burdick: Christmas Robin. Graphite. Susan reports that the prevalence of robins on Victorian Christmas cards is related to the fact that the mail carriers in Victorian England wore red coats and were called “robins” as a result.
Carolyn Rondthaler: Cardinal. Watercolor.
Anne Shields: Northern Mockingbird. Pastel.
Marian Wiseman: Swan at Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati. Watercolor.

Beautiful. Love receiving these photos. Your Swan reminds me of Yeats, Swan and Wild Swans at Coole Park.
