Wednesday Studio members take extra-curricular class

This report is from Wednesday Studio member Lynne Mallonee Schlimm:

A number of Wednesday Studio members branched out recently and tried a new medium—colored pencil. Responding to interest from our group, the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop arranged a three-week class.

Taught by Sarah Jamison, a Corcoran School of Arts and Design graduate, the class covered colored pencil technique, mixing other media such as gouache paint and alcohol markers, and how to use solvents such as hydrogen peroxide and petroleum jelly to achieve various effects. We also learned about the kinds of paper to use for the best results with colored pencil.

Ellen’s nearly finished work, titled “Dyed in the Wool.”

Wednesday Studio members who took the class were Ellen Cornett, Kay Elsasser, Vince Iannacchione, Eileen Leahy, Martha Pope, Lynne Mallonee Schlimm, Anne Shields, and Fran Tomlinson.
