Great birds for May DAB-Day

It’s May, glorious May, and these are the birds submitted for Draw-a-Bird Day (May 8; DAB-Day is the 8th of every month).

Eileen Leahy: Boat-Tailed Grackles. Colored pencil on toned paper.
Tom Eichenberger: Spotted Towhee. Acrylic. This bird is found in western Canada and United States, and through Central America to Guatemala.
Lynne Mallonee Schlimm: Blue Heron. Colored pencil.
Anne Shields: Indigo Bunting. Colored pencil.
Jim Eichenberger: Pied Avocet. Watercolor and tempura. The pied avocet is found in Europe, Africa, and Asia, but not in the American hemisphere. Jim’s American avocet, which has a red/orange head, was in a previous DAB-Day post.
Lillian S., age 10: Crane, Hawk, and Duck. Pencil.
Kenna, age 8: Chicken. Pencil.
Kaia, age 10: Hummingbird. Pencil.
Donna Breslin: Mr. President (bald eagle). Pastel.
Pat Stocks: Eastern Bluebird. Pastel. [State bird of Missouri and New York.]
Susan Burdick: Anisognathus somptuosus (blue-winged mountain tanager). Digital colored pencil. Found in Andean cloud forests from Colombia to Bolivia.
Tara Hamilton: Turquoise-Browed Motmot. Watercolor. It inhabits Central America from southeast Mexico to Costa Rica.
