Watercolor and Pastel Artists at CHAW

December Draw-a-Bird Day arrives

Greetings, all, on this last DAB-Day of 2024. Here are the wonderful birds submitted.

I like it that two artists submitted emperor penguins—in one the penguin is brooding an egg, and in the other one an egg has obviously been hatched, and the adult penguin is with the baby. Awww.

Tara Hamilton: Santa Bird. Watercolor.
Tom Eichenberger: Motmot. Colored pencil. [Tom reports that this bird is found In the woodlands of Central America.]
Ezra P., age 9. Atlantic Puffin. Acrylic.
Susan Burdick: Dead Sea Sparrow. Felt-tip pen and colored pencil.
Susan Burdick: Two-Penny Nativity (five sparrows put in their two-cents-worth on a festive look for the camel). Red and black felt-tip pens.
Jim Eichenberger. Oyster Catcher No. 3. Watercolor and tempura. [Noting that this is his third oyster catcher painting, Jim points out that nobody says Monet painted too many haystacks.]
Mara P., age 6. Nuthatch. Watercolor.
Carolyn Rondthaler. Toucan. Watercolor on canvas.
Donna Breslin: Keeping Watch. Watercolor and ink.
Christina Lara: Penguin and Baby. Colored pencil.
Anne Shields: Northern Flicker. Pastel. [State bird of Alabama, where it is called a yellowhammer.]
Martha Larkin: Yellowlegs. Colored pencil and watercolor.
Marian Wiseman: Cedar Waxwing. Watercolor.
