January 2025 DAB-Day: revised post including all the birds

Greetings, again, bird lovers and art lovers.

Earlier today I published the first 2025 blog post, but it turns out I left out not one, but TWO birds, including my own.

Below is the original DAB-Day post, with the two new birds at the end. Sorry.

============================================================================

Draw-a-Bird Day has a new contributor this month—Barb Zimmer. And I overlooked pointing out several others who joined our merry band in the last few months: Martha Larkin, Christina Lara, and Ezra and Mara P. Welcome, all.

If you would like to try your hand at a bird, we welcome all artistic efforts, in all media, including photography. DAB-Day is the only time when the blog includes art by those outside the Wednesday Studio. Send a photo of your bird by the 8th of the month to wednesday.studio.artists@gmail.com.

This month’s DAB-Day theme, always optional for artists, is birds in snow. I am pretty sure this is a new record for DAB-Day: 15 artists and 16 works of art.

Anne Shields: Cardinal in Snow. Pastel. [The northern cardinal is the state bird of seven states (all contiguous): Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina.]
Martha Larkin: Yellow Warblers. Acrylic and colored pencil.
Christina Lara. Eastern Bluebird. Colored pencil. [The eastern bluebird is the state bird of New York and Missouri.]
Ezra P., age 9. Penguins. Colored pencil.
Mara P., age 6. Snow Birds. Colored pencil.
Donna Breslin: Blue Jay in Snow. Watercolor.
Tom Eichenberger: Gentoo Penguin. Acrylic.
Tara Hamilton: Finch on a Snowy Branch. Watercolor.
Lynne Mallonee Schlimm: Baby Tufted Titmouse. Watercolor.
Carolyn Rondthaler: Chickadees in Snow. Watercolor. [The black-capped chickadee is the state bird of Maine and Massachusetts.]
Barb Zimmer: Black-Capped Chickadee. Watercolor and Pigma Micron pen.
Kay Elsasser: Mourning Dove in Snow. Watercolor and ink.
Jim Eichenberger: Red-Crowned Cranes. Watercolor and tempera. [Jim reports that these birds are also called Manchurian cranes,, and they live in northeast Asia.]

Susan, who lives in Kansas, writes, “I was watching the snow blow and drift and make amazing shapes on my back porch — snapped the photo above with my phone. I played with adding some digital “pencil” strokes in Adobe Fresco . . . but, I almost like it better unenhanced.”

Linda Eichenberger: Untitled, but I call it Bird Ready for Take-Off. Linda writes, “Boy was it hard to convince the airline to let me put it right on the plane tail.” Bon voyage, Linda.
Marian Wiseman: Cedar Waxwing on a Snowy Branch. Watercolor and acrylic.

Each one a joy to behold. Nice that you open the blog to others for DAB Day.
