July DAB-Day has record number of birds

This month we have 18 works of bird art submitted. I’m pretty sure that’s the most we’ve ever had for Draw-a-Bird Day.

We have several first-time contributors also. Welcome, Benjamin A., Suzanne A., Luna Wiseman, and Rachel Wiseman.

Barb Zimmer: Ruby-Crowned Kinglet. Watercolor with pencil and pen.
Anne Shields: Black Skimmer. Anne says that this bird skims along the top of the water looking for dinner. Native of Florida.
Tom Eichenberger: Great Egrets. Acrylic.
Jim Eichenberger: Swan. Watercolor and tempera.
Martha Larkin: Tahiti Rail. Acrylic. Martha reports that this bird, first recorded in the 1770s by James Cook, is now extinct. It was about 10 inches long, flightless, and ate insects and coconut meat. It became extinct in the 1840s, probably due to humans and introduced cats and rats.
Benjamin A., age 8: Bald Eagle. Colored pencil.
Luna Wiseman: Flamingo. Colored pencil.
Mara P., age 6: Flamingo. Acrylic.
Carolyn Rondthaler: Male Summer Tanager. Watercolor. From photo by Kathy Doremus, BackyardBirdnerd.com.
Kathy Shollenberger: Barred Plymouth Rock Chicken. Fabric collage on a gel print, hand and machine embroidered.
Kay Elsasser: Red-Winged Blackbirds. Watercolor.
Judith Davis: Cedar Waxwing. Watercolor.
Susan Burdick: Robin. Watercolor.
Tara Hamilton: Baltimore Oriole. Watercolor.
Rachel Wiseman: Catbird. Crayon.
Marian Wiseman: Cedar Waxwings. Watercolor.

Congratulations to all the participating artists! This is a wonderful collection of birds. And a special shoutout to Marian, blogmistress, for her wonderful Cedar Waxwings. Not only did she offer us three birds, but they are beautifully rendered.
