Wading birds is the theme for DAB-Day May 2026

Two years ago the Draw-a-Bird Day theme was “shorebirds.” The category includes short-legged birds that run along the shore, such as plovers and sandpipers, and also long-legged birds that fish in shallow water. I recently learned that the long-legged ones are called waders.

This month artists were invited to submit renderings of waders.

Welcome to Johanna Kinley (who goes by “Hanna” with many of her friends), who submitted her first bird this month. We hope to see many more birds from you, Hanna!

Tara Hamilton: Beauty in the Swamp. Watercolor.

Would any of you Wednesday Studio-ers like a nice umbrella that Linda (who never passed up a nifty gadget) bought for her plein air painting? First to claim it can have it, and I’ll deliver. Randy Norton
