The Wednesday Studio only recently found out that the 8th of every month is Draw-a-Bird Day. But guess what? Draw-a-Bird Day has been around since 1946, and it’s international! We now call it DAB Day.
I’m not making this up. You can learn all about the history of DAB Day and see hundreds of birds that have been submitted over the years, at DAB Day’s own website: www.dabday.com.
Even cartoonists want to draw birds! We thank cartoonist Dave Blazek for this great cartoon and for kindly giving us permission to use it in the blog. You can follow Dave’s “Loose Parts” cartoons in the Washington Post, or see them every day at this website: http://www.gocomics.com/looseparts.
We want your bird! Yes, we are opening up this blog to everyone to send your own bird drawing to us on the 8th of every month. Mark it on your calendar now!
Once you create your bird, take a photo of your drawing or painting and email it to wednesday.studio.artists@gmail.com. Your bird will be on this blog along with those created by the Wednesday Studio.
Here are the October DAB Day birds. [Hover over each image to see the artist’s name.]
Looking forward to seeing your bird for the November 8 DAB Day!

I just love these drawings. I was on a 13 hour road trip and couldn’t do any drawings. But looking forward to November 8!
