Works by Anne and Martha featured at Hill Center
Anne Shields and Martha Pope are among seven artists who are in a new exhibition at the Hill Center Galleries in Washington, DC. The show’s opening reception is this Wednesday, October 19, from 6 to 8 pm. The Hill Center is at the Old Naval Hospital at 921 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE.
Anne has 12 works on display, and Martha has 16. I’ve seen quite a bit of their art in the Wednesday Studio, but I’m excited to see this many of their works when I go to the reception this week.
The Hill Center Galleries have a number of large rooms on three floors. Anne and Martha’s show, titled “From Politics to Painting: Two Artistic Journeys,” is in two of the gallery rooms on the second floor.
When I talked to them about the show last week, Martha said , “It was a lot of fun collaborating on this, and putting it together was very exciting.”
Anne agreed, adding, “It was a lot of hard work, but very satisfying.”
These are a few of their works that are in the show. I hope you get a chance to see the rest of them on display at the Hill Center.

The montage of political caricatures above is created from four separate pastels that Anne created in the final rounds of this year’s primaries. The cock is Trump; the lion is Hillary; the dinosaur is Cruz; the chimp is Bernie.
