I just published the blog post about Ellen’s new show at the Rockville gallery Artists and Makers Studio 2, but I left out a piece in the show that is one of my favorites! So sorry!
This piece is titled An Unkindness of Ravens. It turns out that “unkindness” is the term for a group of ravens, just as “herd” is a group of cows and “school” is a group of fish. Some animal groups have more than one option. Zebras, for instance, can be a herd (the most common term), or a cohort, a dazzle, or a zeal. (I am not making this up.)
Anyway, Ellen’s drawing of the ravens is really delightful, and I regret that I forgot to include it in the last post about the show.
An Unkindness of Ravens, by Ellen Cornett. Carbon pencil.
We can see the original of this work at the Artists and Makers Studio 2, 12276 Wilkins Avenue, Rockville, Maryland, through October 26. The opening reception is this Friday, October 6, from 6 to 9 pm.
I suppose it’s better to be an “unkindness of ravens” than a “murder of crows.” Love the drawing!
