THE WEDNESDAY STUDIO

Watercolor and Pastel Artists at CHAW

Is this peachy enough for you?

In the last post, displaying the squirrels we drew using colored pencil, I should have mentioned that trying this new medium was HARD! I personally found using colored pencil a real challenge!

Each of us has already achieved some facility in watercolor or pastel, and it’s comfortable to stick with what you know. But we are in class to learn, so we asked for another lesson in using colored pencils.

This week, using a photograph of a peach to draw, we learned more about layering colors, types of paper, and types of pencils (some are harder than others, some are waxier than others). I, for one, found the peach just as challenging as the squirrel!

Here are the peaches we drew this week, starting with the photo we used as a model.

Vince Iannacchione: Peach. Colored pencil.
Carolyn Rondthaler: Peach: Watercolor pencil.
Wan Lee: Peach: Colored pencil
Eileen Leahy: Peach. Colored pencil.
Anne Shields: Peach. Colored pencil with tea. [Anne drew the peach with colored pencil, then poured tea over it to see what the effect would be.]
Ellen Cornett: Peach. Colored pencil.
Marian Wiseman: Peach. Colored pencil.
